Owl Cupcakes

A friend of mine has a 2 year old niece who had her heart set on Minnie Mouse cupcakes for her upcoming birthday...that is until she saw pictures from her 1st birthday.  She realized, to her horror, that she had Minnie Mouse last year.  She quickly changed her tune and decided that she wanted OWLS.

Chocolate and vanilla cupcakes iced in buttercream.  The owl's are also made with Oreos and M&Ms.

Christmas Gift

This was for a friend from work for a holiday party.

Red velvet cake filled and iced in buttercream and then covered in fondant.  The bow is gum paste.

Meet Henry the Turkey

My mother-in-law requested a cake for Thanksgiving and this cute little guy just came to life.  When she came to pick up the cake, she decided that he looked like a Henry.

Birthday Gift

My friend Jess (another Tennessee fan) wanted something orange and white for her birthday cake.

A Townhouse Divided

I attended the University of Georgia. My husband attended the University of Tennessee.  As you can imagine, things around here get pretty interesting the second weekend in October.  This year, we had our friends over to watch the game with us and, of course, we needed a cake for the occasion.  This was my first time carving cake.  The helmets were from two 8" rounds.
The field was vanilla cake colored to be a red and orange swirl. It is filled and iced in buttercream. The helmets were a chocolate cake filled and iced in buttercream and covered in fondant with fondant accents.  The face masks are modeling chocolate.  Go dawgs!

Stars and Stripes and Fireworks

I had some family in from out of town over the Fourth of July...perfect excuse to bake a big cake!

Vanilla layers colored to be red, white, and blue, all filled and iced in buttercream and covered in fondant.  The accents on the cake are all fondant as well.

Phoenix Suns

My husband is a huge Phoenix Suns fan, so I knew his birthday cake needed to be something basketball.

Vanilla an strawberry marble cake with a vanilla cream and fresh-cut strawberry filling. Iced in buttercream and covered in fondant.

Graduation Cap

A woman requested this cake for her two grandchildren.  They attended different high schools, so instead of the usual school colors, the cake is a neutral black and white.
The bottom tier is vanilla cake and the top tier (the cap) is chocolate.  All filled and iced in buttercream and covered in fondant. The tassel and diploma are gum paste.

Twix Sunflower Box

I had seen so many cute cakes with candy bars around the edges to create the look of a barrel or a flower box and just had to give it a try.

Chocolate cake filled and iced with chocolate ganache.  I used Twix bars around the edges to create the flower box.  The sunflowers and grass are buttercream.

Giant Rainbow Cupcake!

This was for a 7-year-old girl's birthday. I made it used the Wilton giant cupcake pan.
Vanilla cake filled and iced with buttercream.  The top portion has sprinkles mixed in.

Beach Birthday

This cake was for a ten year old girl's birthday.  She wanted something beach-themed.

Vanilla cake filled and iced with buttercream.  The sand is a mixture of graham cracker crumbs and brown sugar.  The palm trees, towel, and surfboard are made of modeling chocolate.

Princess Tiara

Not long after the castle cake, another princess came along and asked for a cake.  This one needed a big crown on it!  This was a bit tricky because it was my first time making a royal icing tiara, but it turned out!
Strawberry cake filled and iced with buttercream, covered in fondant with fondant accents and a royal icing tiara.

Flower Cupcakes

I didn't make these for any particular reason, just exploring with different tips.

Princess Castle

One of the sweet little girls from my class last year had a princess-themed birthday party.  The princess knew exactly what she wanted for her cake:  "A princess castle with a princess on top!"  She also could not make up her mind as to what flavor of cake her royal guests would prefer, so she requested vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry!
The princess was made out of modeling chocolate and completely edible.

There is her royal highness, a satisfied princess!  The girls at the party just hovered around the cake table...so sweet.  I used the Wilton castle kit (the white pillars), but everything else is all edible. Vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry layers filled and iced in buttercream and covered in fondant. The accents are fondant and buttercream.  The princess is modeling chocolate.

Fondant & Gum Paste Final Cake

This was the final cake from the third and final Wilton class.  I had experimented with fondant on my own, and learned a ton from this course including how to make a bow.
Vanilla and Chocolate layers filled and iced in buttercream and covered in homemade marshmallow fondant.  The bow is gum paste.

Flowers & Cake Design Final Cake

This past spring, I took the Wilton Flowers & Cake Design class at JoAnn's.  This was the cake that I made on the final night the class.  I was so excited to learn how to do the basketweave!
Butter Pecan cake with Bavarian creme filling, iced and decorated with buttercream.  The flowers were made with royal icing.

Strawberry Cupcakes

I made these for a baby shower.  It's a girl!

Triple Chocolate

I made this cake for a friend of mine whose only request was chocolate.
Devil's Food cake filled and iced in chocolate buttercream and drizzled with chocolate ganache.

King of the Jungle Baby Shower

I've decided to create a blog to post all my cakes to, so forgive me if I have to backtrack a little.  This was the first cake I was asked to make. It was for a "King of the Jungle" themed baby shower back in January.  You can see the decorations fitting the theme here: http://www.partypail.com/king-of-the-jungle-baby-shower.html.

I had never made a tiered cake before, nor had I experimented with fondant or gum paste.  Nevertheless, I gave it my best shot and this was the result:
